Commonly referred to as normal saline, this isotonic sodium chloride solution provides a source of water and electrolytes for intravenous administration when clinically appropriate.

Each 1000 mL container contains 0.9% sodium chloride and has a calculated osmolarity of 308 mOsmol/L. The solution contains no preservatives or antimicrobial agents, and Baxter identifies the VIAFLEX container as latex-free.
